Improvement of sanitation, health and hygiene in Njombe and Ludewa, Tanzania
This project improves sanitation and knowledge about sanitation and hygiene in 5 rural communities in Ludewa and Njombe, Tanzania (12.500 people). In this area, most people use either traditional latrines of a poor quality or no latrine at all.
The activities of the project are aimed at making the facilities themselves, training and sensitization and the creation of structures / committees for building, sensitization and operation & maintenance.
Expected results:
- 200 functioning sanitation facilities
- 12.500 people with access to improved sanitation for 10 years
The project includes the following steps:
- Formation of Water and Sanitation Committees (Watsan)
- Formation of Village Action Groups (VAGs)
- Construction of 200 pit latrines
- Training of watsan committees and VAG leaders in health and hygiene education
- Awareness raising campaign in the communities on health, hygiene, waterborne diseases and maintenance of latrines
- Evaluation and final reporting
This is project of Connect International. Connect International runs this project together with its local partner SHIPO. The Huisman Foundation has contributed approximately € 3000,-- to this project. This amount was doubled by Aqua4All.
