The usage of solar energy for the first low-energy internet cafe in Chitokoloki in rural Zambia.

The project aims at using solar panels on a 'low energy' internet cafe in Chitokoloki, Zambia. The national grid lies at 300 km from Chitokoloki. Access to Internet and ICT technology offers the local talent the necessary tools to flourish. Macha Works, the initiator and executor of the project (together with LinkNet), offers ICT solutions for healthcare, education, agriculture, business and community services. This approach has proven to be successful in Macha and is now extended to Chitokoloki.

The contribution of the Huisman Foundation is € 15.000,--. This is sufficient to install the solar panels in Chitokoloki. The amount is deposited in a revolving fund. Part of the profits from the internet cafe in Chitokoloki returns to the revolving fund in order to start  similar initiatives elsewhere in Zambia.

Macha Works is a young partnership, with an innovative approach aimed at:
-the use of high tech (internet, media, telecom)
-identifying and developing local talent (this is a huge focus of Macha Works)
